Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Statement

ALBERTA ASSOCIATION OF RESPIRATORY THERAPISTS

The Alberta Association of Respiratory Therapists is committed to equity,
diversity, inclusion, and belonging in our profession and in the care we support. We value the perspectives and lived experiences of our members, patients, and communities, and we strive to foster a respectful environment where everyone is treated with dignity and fairness.

We commit to:

  • Promote equitable access to opportunities in education, employment, leadership, and professional development.

  • Champion inclusive practices that reduce barriers for individuals from equity-deserving groups.

  • Support culturally safe, trauma-informed, and patient-centered respiratory care across Alberta.

  • Listen, learn, and engage with members and partners to continuously improve our policies, programs, and practices.

  • Uphold professionalism and address discrimination, harassment, and bias where they occur.

We recognize that advancing EDI is ongoing work. We will measure our progress, be transparent about what we learn, and remain accountable to the communities we serve.

The Alberta Association of Respiratory Therapists (AaRT) acknowledges the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary territories of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples across Alberta. We recognize the treaties that shape our shared responsibilities—Treaties 6, 7, and 8—and the Métis Nation of Alberta within Métis Nation Homeland. We honor the past, present, and future contributions of Indigenous Peoples, and we reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation through humility, accountability, and the delivery of culturally safe respiratory care.
